I like the idea of goods you purchase having to be shipped in via truck, ship, etc. The global market keeps sounding better as more is revealed.
The idea does seem interesting, it is more advanced than what Cities XL gave I guess. Perhaps the Global Market can compensate with the mishaps wer'e facing hmmmm...
i personaly like the GM idea,thats something that adds fun and realism to the game. But if you are planing to play SP all game you can see now that sooner or later youl have to join the GM or ells you will be limited to renevable resource

This is all very interesting and I seem to remember having this very idea a couple years ago, but I have a few questions. 1: Do the resources have an affect on the city or is it just another way to make money? For example, if you have no farms or aren't importing food will your sims starve? If you don't have concrete and steel, will you never build any skyscrapers? 2: Will there be a day in the future of the Sim World where there is no more of a resource, for example coal? Or is the world infinite and continually regenerating? I think it would be VERY interesting to see what would happen when all the land is exploited and there is no more of a resource.
Is there anywhere I can read up more about these mechanics or have they not been released?

i do think that part of that is in the game, or ells i dont see big reason why should anyone buy anything, exept coal or oil for power
@archelon - in the article is says "However, keep in mind that resources are limited. If your electricity is being generated by coal or oil then you will need to shift to renewable energy sources when you exhaust your regional supply."

I played EVE a few years back and as I recall they had a really good global market but they also had tens if not hundreds of thousands of players (I forget which). I have no problem with a market per se but the FOCUS should be on city building which I feel this is not.

Sounds like an opportunity to SPEND more MONEY to me.

That is, spend money on an arbitrary feature that simply does not belong in Sim City 5... err, I mean Multiplayergriefingcloudeconomy5.

you know this has ALOT of pro's to it for which this game despratly needs, the idea and from what i can tell the implementation is there, hopefully it will emerge great! and its nice to have some of these type of features (and to be able to CHOOSE not to have them!!) instead of having them forced down upon us!

Sounds like an interesting concept to work with. Just like power plants and water utilities break down, so should resources.
