I'm actually rather excited for this game. I'm also glad that in their answers they're not trying to pander to the "waaa online???!!" crowd and just stating it like it is. They decided to make it online and designed everything around that. End of story, hate it or love it.
Looks like disasters will need conditions to happen randomly. So at least there's some control in that sense.
confirmation that you cannot turn off disasters.
one more deal-breaker and this is a HUGE one for me.

Contradicts what they themselves said before.
What else then? Will finally say that modding is not possible?

Contradicts what they themselves said before.

When did they ever say that it would be possible to turn off disasters?
You know what's a disaster?

Deciding to play SimCity 2013 ten years down the road and realizing that the servers were already torn down and I'm left with a useless piece of plastic.

I say just stick to SimCity4, people!

Let the "just let EA treat us like doormats!!" crowd pander to their broken game.

Remember Tiberium Twilight and what EA did to it, this game will be no different!

I agree with you on that. SC13 will be a disater in itself. and another flop for EA.
>Randomized Disasters

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh my god, this is just getting too sad now.

"You see that nice city you made? Well screw you! We'll blow it up to bits because we said so. But you can make your own disasters too if you want to screw it up even further! And all this is non-reversible because your saved data is on our servers only!!! (Which will probably crap out at least once to twice a week, sorry!) But thanks for being such a loyal customer. And please take these twenty spam mails we used your email account for."

Who does EA hire for its marketing department? We didn't ask for random disasters, I don't even remember the last time I used a disaster on my cities, let alone it being completely RANDOM. They don't even know what their fans want anymore, they are just throwing random crap here and there just to make it look more "complex". Real "complexity" you got there EA, especially after you took out all the transportation systems, density allocation, region play, and countless other amazing Simcity features. Go screw yourselves EA, you truly are the cancer on the video game industry.

But hey, let's not be too hard on them, they got one disaster right: Simcity 2013.
Another reason for me to stop caring. First, the limitations, then the rabid, overexcited and sometimes potty-mouthed supporters and now this. I don't think Disasters were ever forced in any instalment.
WTF @ page 8?!

"
In past SimCity games every city ended up looking like a massive metropolis after a while. What has the team done to make sure this isn’t the case in the new SimCity?"

So the goal was never to get big as city, is that there excuse now? The way the question is formed just emplies it was deliberate aswell as the answer. THAT is why we have tiny maps people..

"The curvy roads also allow for a lot more artistic expression. Cities no longer need to look like a repeating pattern of squares":

Even without curvey roads we managed that just fine here -_-

In past SimCity games every city ended up looking like a massive metropolis after a while. What has the team done to make sure this isn’t the case in the new SimCity?

It makes my heart bleed ahen I think they really might find some "fans" who told them soncerely they wanted the new version of their favorite SimCity NOT to have:
- massive metropolises
- large-size maps
- subways
- disabling disasters
- etc, etc, etc...
Yup dissapointment after dissapointment. WHen will Maxis say @$&@-you EA and let us make a game that is a REAL Simcity. I am already making plans for another rendition of SC4 and will continue to play it until they have a REAL new city builder. CitiesXL, Simcity 2013 can suck it!
"In past SimCity games every city ended up looking like a massive metropolis after a while. What has the team done to make sure this isn’t the case in the new SimCity?"

oh I guess this explains why none of the skyscrapers appear to be over 120m, and why you can have a towering downtown district with literally empty grass all around it. What happened to 'build out before you build up'?
"In past SimCity games every city ended up looking like a massive metropolis after a while. What has the team done to make sure this isn’t the case in the new SimCity?
These people obviously have either a. never played SC4, and/or b. Never visited Simtropolis.
holy hell is this a hate-fest..."what...what do you mean the world is round!!!!" get a hold of yourselves! Yeah, the game is missing some classic dynamics from past instalments but the opportunities to make this new platform something awesome are infinite. Remember some compromises must be made at least initially lest you have a defense mainframe quality computer to run your desired complex game. Who is to say once the game does get its sea legs and we arent satisfied, we wont modd the crap out of it?? And EA, however capitalist they may be is not going to abandon the game servers...I dont think Maxis would have agreed to make the game if that was a possibility, its really really bad PR. But then again you people keep burying this game before its born, it may infact be dropped from servers. I personally am excited. smaller means more detail.
If it ain't broken, don't fix it. And if it ain't horrible, don't break it.

They are following neither of those things. "missing some classic things" THAT MADE THE GAMES GOOD IN THE FIRST PLACE! WE WANT SIMCITY, NOT SIMIDIOTVILLE!
Sorry for the rage, but seriously. We want a game for people with brains. Not for 10 year old facebookers who think simcity social is a complex game. The new simcity is catering to the latter, not to the former, as all of the older SCs did.

There is nothing Maxis can do they are owned by EA. Why do you think the Bioware directors left Bioware because they know that EA is about to destroy it like they have done with countless orthers like Maxis.

WTF! always online?!?!?! No subways?!?! Small maps?!? Random and not-possible-to-turn-off disasters???!?! this game... is going to be a disaster...
Now I only have 2 hopes: 1) they are all fired
2) You guys mod the game to make it a SC4 with curve road and better zooming/graphincs;

Which among those are the most likely to happen?

Well if they really want to make money, make a SC$ 2013 version and ask people to pay to register and download mods on website like this! HEllo! so easy!

Shut up.
1)Fire Maxis veterans with lots of experience?
Not going to happen.
2)We can't do that. The engine doesn't allow and we don't have the source code to fix possible bugs.

Want to hate? Atleast hate with class. And real facts.

I think because of the limitations (city size and whatnot), they *need* to keep cities from being massive metropolises, and this is the way they spin it like it's a good thing.

"Yeah, the game is missing some classic dynamics from past instalments but the opportunities to make this new platform something awesome are infinite.

You forgot to add IMPORTANT before dynamics. Also limiting mapsize is making oppertunities more finite than infanite -_-

I seriously smell an online subscription comming, am not kidding.

I wouldnt worry about it by the time they implement this SC13 will be dead.
