European Evolution: Creating International Cities

* * * * *
Hey everyone! I’m Eugene Wong and I’m an Art Director here at Maxis. I help define the look of SimCity by working with concept artists to design each RCI (residential/commercial/industrial) building. I also lead the 3D construction of the buildings, everything from defining the tools and technology needed to bring a building from a 2D sketch to a 3D model, to working with our internal artists and several art teams around the world to bring the first 3D version of SimCity to life.

According to the quality of the cartoons that have seen would be better to hire some moders community, to lend knowledge to these artists.
this is really wonderful. the game is finally coming to.
So I have to place the landmark first and then I can have little European bubbles inside my 2x2km city-bubble. Exactly what my sarcastic mind wants.
This isn't wonderful, the game isn't finally coming together.

Every new post about this game makes me loose interest more and more. This is nothing like what fans wanted and it's upsetting that they keep setting up this game to be all stuff that fans asked for. It's not at all.

These images show that for us to have any cities with these types of buildings, we have to put down the landmark... and for a couple blocks in every direction the buildings will change to the 2 or 3 different buildings that they supply with that countries building set. This isn't making a european city, it's having a cookie cutter section of the city that will look just like every other persons city when they plop the one landmark you are supplied with.

Sim City fans want options to make realistic cities. Realistic size large cities with realistic transportation. A city to transforms into something with the players personality. The game creators gave up on realistic to focus internet connectivity, which no one was really asking for. From what we see, there is no way to make a large city, but instead you have small/medium cities with spaces in-between that then goes into someone else's small/medium city that will look very similar.

And modding. No modding = a dead game in this genre. I want to buy this game so bad because it's been 10 years, but they don't have anything most of us actually are asking for. Prime example of this is them not answering the tough questions because they are too afraid to tell us the features aren't there.

Just to point out that there will be modding, only not inmediately after release, just like the case of SimCity 4. Also, you should know that they can't answer all the questions because EA has an eye out as to what should be released to the public when it comes to information of the game.

It's not their fault the game is taking this direction. EA had it's conditions for sure for the game to be developed, online included, and Maxis has to obey to this conditions, as a subsidiary.

wow!! the buildings look .....awful, so plain and simple, like something out of the first days of custom content, take a look around Simtropolis or SC4Devotion and you'll find a lot of far better looking english, french, or german buildings, Debussyman, Xannepan and many others have realeased far better models and lots for free, so, sorry but, at least with what i've seen until nw, i'm not buying
The buildings don't look good! :|

That article was posted many, many months ago. In that time, lots of things have changed that we thought were already in-place and guaranteed.
I just don't understand why the industry keeps coming with casual 'for stupid and simple people' kind of games. Simcity 4 has become big because the community created the 'right' content and mods to make it more realistic.

Now, they come yet again, with a game for 2 year olds and teletubbi models. Very very limited terrain size, while with paging technology (just google for realtime planet rendering) you can give the end-user unlimited freedom.

Incredibe... really.. incredible.. EA is abusing (raping) Maxis.

just becouse they say so dosnt meen its actually gona happend
those buildings are very much a cliché. Disappointing.
Kill it, kill it with fire.

What I am saying is:
This is very disappointing.
Looks interesting, but are those all the variants of the buildings, or are there more that they didn't build? Also, 80$ is absurd. I'm sorry but the only way I'll EVER be able to get this is if there's a great sale or I somehow get 200 dollars for Christmas, which is extremely unlikely.
Another disappointment from EA. Instead of building a realistic city based on a region of Europe, you get a Disneyesque neighborhood around a plopped landmark. Also, European architecture varies by age. England is noted for its half-timbered Tudor houses and Victorian buildings as well as its Georgian houses. Berlin prior to World War II was essentially an 18th and 19th Century city with few remaining Medieval buildings, reflecting the growth of Prussia and the German Empire at the time. Also, no building sets are mentioned for Italy, Spain, and Scandinavia, which have their distinctive architecture.
