I've found that making large residential areas with one of each service building centrally located works very well.  Obviously elites need the most consideration and unqualified the least.  I developed a plan for my high density residential area, but I'm really uncertain where to zone my high density high tech and office.

Each cell = the 2X3 blocks the high density square grid tool creates, and the lines are the simple roads the tool creates.  U is for unqualified, Q for Qualified etc.  The colons indicate the 2 large avenues that will run through empty blocks.  I may place zones one at a time or 'thin' the 2x3s as needed.

The retail and services blocks should be spacious and flexible. I don't mind placing zones one at a time.  Water towers, hotels, and holiday hotels will take advantage of that flexibility.

The cells with nothing in them are yet to be determined.

I included a few HT and O but I'm not sure if there could/should be strategy in their placement.

Hello,

It is fairly hard to picture this. If you want to make a demo city with just a small portion of this grid lay out, I will be more then happy to voice my opinion on this.

Hmmm, it looked okay when I created the message, but it didn't turn out right when I posted.  Now I can't even click the edit button

Interesting, but I would use 2x4 high density because that can be upgraded from low and medium density thus allowing the entire city from the farms to the suburbs to the intercity to the high density downtown.

See my SimCountry! It payed for full membership to on October 12 (cheaper than CitiesXL Planet Offer with much more micromanaging, in a different way). I will form a federation or common market with you if you ask kindly.

I'm not gong to edit the OP since it's actually readable now.  TYVM ST moderator!

Basically, the residential area is 4 quadrants that are mirror images of one another (all high density).  I went with 2x3s since the square grid tool makes them with better consistency then I am capable.  2x4s would be better though since 3 small zones = 2 big zones :/  I ended up making the quadrants biggerthan my plan.

On the perimeter of the 4 quadrants I've place high density offices and high tech.  The offices seem to thrive so I've probably got 3 offices for every one high tech.  I'm selling sets of 5 office tokens to Don Madliff.

I'm buying waste, electricity, food, manufacturing and dirty industry.  The city has water and holidays, so there are a couple water towers around, and some holiday hotels are going where ever.

I've found that High Tech really needs good frieght, and the only factor for placement of business hotels is passanger services, but I'm still no expert on placement.

I've had shortages/excess of workers as the city has grown so I've changed it up a little.  I don't have a use for so many unqualified workers atm...  Service coverage seems very good, and the elites seem pretty content to be close to everything, but not too close Do you see any problems arising because of my residential zone placement?

In case you're interested, I have a almost four quadrants complete and around 500k pop:

Planet: Pollux
Mayor Name: Simaril
City name: Pelennor
