@Evillions - Maybe

@art128 -
Honestly; it was a fluke! I could give you some numbers to get that kind of texture, but it will only work in 3dsmax.

@simcity4fan12 -
lol - w.e.

@TekindusT -
Thank you, I enjoy your comments.

@ac94 -
Yes andrew, and I owe you big time! I promise you that you'll have the first bite. NOM NOM NOM!

@Thomaskrules - I'm not saying

@CarmineHilton - Yes! Your name sounds famous too! Carmine Hilton ...Plaza, hotel, place, tower...what do you think?

@citiesxlfan42 -
You sure will! Be in chat more often! ^_^

@Simcity player - Yep yep - I promise you I won't forget any detail; right now I've been working on little things to merge the current scene with. My only and current BAT on Stex has scaffolding. For now I will do the big main geometry.

@Amthaak -
Meh I'll let you get away with it this time...READ!  I did that in your thread; I didnt read properly. But yeah, most likely finished version (if it's not too much work). Kind of a lot of projects at once...dont you think?

@Maranello575 - Fluke! Or maybe just pratice. But thanks

@nofunk - Will do!

@pagenotfound - gracias.

@Larks2242 - Thank you larks...and what's with the... red jay? lol. Just curious.

Minor Update!

Richardson Tower

Alrighty - So I started a new job! I work in Osbourne Village in Winnipeg (next to American Apparel ). And It's getting pretty hectic. But in between intervals of no customers I add a mullion or two.

I rendered the Richardson as a test. And here's what I got!

^^^Should I size this up into a 4x4 lot? Right now this is a 3x3. As xyloxdoria said in chat "SC4 has no sense of scale". I need your opinion on this, it will be you using this in your cities (hopefully).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Newton Hotel

So I worked on the Newton Hotel a bit more - modified all the textures. I think the only thing that will make them more real is that I add some "RGB noise". But I don't know how. So far here's what I got.

^^^I think I'll be making the floors a little more smaller, because in the real life photos there is less space inbetween the windows vertically.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aza Condos

During my halloween I stayed indoors...waited for ppl to come to the door...no one came. Maybe because I live in Downtown? But oh well, I was bored; here's what I made.

^^^1x2.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TuZhing Palace

Tell me your thoughts on these textures - they're made in material editor. I was so stumped why they took so long to render....Any opinions?

^^^Typical 3x3.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

....Not till next year!

As far as scale goes, so long as your vertical scale is fine in relation to your horizontal dimensions ( roughly 4m/ floor, doors = 1m wide x 3m tall and so forth), I see no reason to scale either X nor Y. Oh, and I cant tall you how it looks because your picture is re-sized, full-size zoom 5 PLEASE! The texture on TuZhing just looks like a flat texture with a noise bump map, not bad but you should finish the massing of that building so we can actually see how it will look in the end. Most of the faces where it is most obvious will be hidden by other geometry in the future so assessing it now really doesn't do much good IMHO. Newton Hotel looks like a bunch of flat colors, try adding some "texture" to the bitmaps (or what ever method) so it looks like there is something substantially behind that layer of paint.

Anyway, I really like your little condos, very creative and modern

Xyloxdoria is correct: SC4 has absolutely no sense of scale. With that said, please leave the Richardson as a 3x3 lot. I think it will be way too massive as a 4x4. Anyway, the model and textures look fantastic! I can't wait to download this one.

Newton Hotel also looks great. I love the bizarre facade on this piece. I don't believe we have many buildings similar to this design on the STEX and it will be good to have something out of the ordinary.

I'm also glad to see that you'll be attempting SWFC. I appreciate dmscopio's effort on it but I don't like the way it was textured. Obviously no offense to him, but it appears to me that you are much better at getting textures realistic than him.

You're vastly becoming one of my favorite new BATers! Keep the excellent work up.

WOW Kelly, this what you're doing here is great. I really like your work. I hope some of it(at least) will get released. Specially that Unknown Tower and Liu Plaza. Ah, and Modern Midrise of course.

Hey, Richardson Tower is looking great! I'd leave it as it is, scale-wise. If anything, then the lot could be offered as 4x4 so the building doesn't end up standing wall to wall next to another highrise.

Another possible improvement would be to add some variety to the roof and window textures. As they are now, the windows look a bit like black holes, and if you compare the roof with the one of that fugly brown residential highrise behind the tower, you can see that it could be made visually more interesting with a better texture.

The last question is, does that strip of pavement along the outline of the base actually need to be part of the BAT? As you see, it stands out a bit... this wouldn't be the case if the pavement at the base was composed of lot textures.

Some fabulous new pictures, my eyes are drawn to the SWFC! Still in begin stage but I'm sure it'll be very sexy

As for the building's name, I was just joking =p No need to name it after me...
What about a french name? "Tour Opus"? dunno... xD

For the Newton Hotel, hotels, like residential buildings, are usually pretty thin, since the building is divided into small units and each of those units has a window. So I found the building in Bing maps, and it's hard to tell but it looks like the building is actually L shaped, which I think makes more sense.

As far as scale goes, the game is in meters, so simply model it according to the real life dimensions. Because of the type of view in the game, things will appear squashed, so you can scale vertically by 133% (or whatever makes the building look the most proportionally correct) to compensate. I explain it more specifically in the BAT - Mega FAQ.

I would say 4x4, there are lots of BATs out there that fit in a 3x3... About the SWFC, if you make it better than dmscopio's one I'll have to change of Favourite Batter!

Well! You certainly made good use of a boring Halloween night -- the Aza Condos look fantastic! Can't wait to see those textured.

Regarding the material on TuZhing Palace: I like the textural variation, but I think it needs some tone differences too (i.e., aging, dirty areas, etc.) and that doesn't come through on the material. I only ever use textures, but is there a way to overlay some sort of dirt mask over the material?

Great stuff!

@SimHoTToDDy  - Here you go - I'm too lazy to find my SC4 disc I'm pretty sure this is a zoom 5.

^^^ Its a transparent Alpha file too - So if you know how, you can photoshop it into the game.

And for the TuZhing or whatever I called it (Lol). I was trying to simulate Camera Noise. Silverstein properties have done this effectively. I guess I should've shown you more of an arrayed image.

                                                                          ^^^Notice how the colours are disturbed by RGB noise instead of being fully gradient? I tried this with TuZhing, to try get a more realistic material. But I'm still learning. And yeah the Newton will hopefully have the same effect as soon as I figure out how to make it look more realistic. Its kind of hard making flat textures in the material editor look realistic. I'm trying to do BATs without actually taking photos off the net.

And Thank  You

LOL

@DragonAnime - Alright, I think I just might try a 4x4 though, (not a full 4x4). I could make it a 4x4 because there is an underground plaza called "Winnipeg Square" that is filled with restuarants. Winnipeg Square connects four skyscrapers and has an 6 or 8 lane roadway intersected by 3 other large arteries. Very huge place, I might try that. And thanks!

@grbac80 - I have no reason to keep these BATs away from you guys And thank you.

@Evillions - I like how all of you use "Someday" I have a lot of unreleased BATs all over the place, but I don't think they're worthy of Dirk's website usage and bandwidth.

@T Wrecks - Alright I'll take that into account "fugly" Lol. And yeah that strip of so-called pavement is just my lot limit. That's the first thing I do when I bat. I put a lot limit so I dont have anything out of the lot (except reflections).

@Simcity player - Not for a while my friend.

@CarmineHilton - No offense, but I hate buildings in French. I dropped French for Espanol amigo!  But yeah, Carmine Hilton sounds like a famous name, I like it.

@Jasoncw - Yep I know! I did stretch in vertically already. And I believe the light is getting inbetween the crevices of the windows. I think that's what is putting the building off. I either have the make the windows larger or scale the whole thing down vertically. I think I'll be making the windows larger.

@mcarch - Suggestion taken.

@TekindusT - I'll be trying the 4x4 too. And yeah, maybe soon

@ac94 - NOM NOM NOM!!

@Legosim - Lmao - Ironic how your name is "LegoSim" too. x]

@nofunk - Thanks! And yeah I'll try that. First I'll have to find some dirt textures. Turn them into Alphas, and diffuse it as a bitmap. (when I have the time of course

@Victor Valdes - Thanks Victor!  And are you into touring cars?

@thepokemaniac - Thank You! That means a lot to me.

UPDATE:

So I started work, I'm on the grad committe, I'm going to Paris and Madrid for my birthday, Learning a third language, and everything is all coming at once! So I've been doing my best in getting these complete!  Oh yeah, my dad sold a 50 Million dollar lotto ticket here in Manitoba; Did someone say $100,000 tip?

Here's a little on what I've been working on and thinking of.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before I get started on the base - I would like to know something. Would you guys like this as a complex too with multiple towers?...and would you like fries with that? (please answer questions).

And for this tower - I've been moving like a slow old lady with lego blocks the size of bricks. So please dont expect this one to be released soon. Meanwhile I'm BATting these buildings I'm also creating a texture library and keeping it sorted out! And with extra props (ppl, trees, chairs, tables, etc). I've been BATting them Highquality and making them seperate models that I could merge into a new project (this will save me time).

^^^Parkade with tower!

^^^Same Tower....I just stumped myself with the roof! haha, I'll figure it out.

^^^This is actually my FIRST Trunite Render - I only used one texture. I got it off Stex - I forget from who. But it was just a test, this is not the final render.

After a LONG time trying to figure out what looked right for the "Carmine Hilton Plaza". I Think I've finally figure the combination!  I hid other geometry to render faster, and I changed the glass texture a bit (i think it looks better this way). And I think it should be smooth sailing from here.

^^^ Zoom 5 Render, Click Here for Alpha File.

Aza Condos

For Aza Condos I just felt like doing a test render, but somehow I managed to rotate the LODs without knowing it! And *dramatic music*. FAILED RENDER!

^^^ I think I'll be making different combinations of colours. Gray, Tan Beige, Blue, and Maybe Yellow.

As for the construction tower, I've created a lot of props (that I will just merge with the model to avoid a dependancy pack). I almost lost my interest for this building. But I decided to go for a drive to photograph some construction. There's a lot of Construction here in Winnipeg (even if the economy is bad). We've been building Banks, Museums, Skyscrapers, the whole 10 yards! And soon theres going to be a new stadium here! ^_^.

^^^See the big black thing on the roof? That's what I'm going to do with Carmine Hilton Plaza.
And if your wondering what that big skinny thing is, thats a solar chiminey. This building is for our Electricity company. We call it Hydro.

I'll have a new render for the Construction Skyscraper soon!

Complex would be fine but as an option so that people can choose. CH Plaza is great, just one thing. those trees on the top, make a round circle around the base with dirt so that it doesn't look like they grow from the concrete. Just a thought.

So yeah - Still busy bee as Simcityfan42 said.

@CarmineHilton - Yeah fer sure! I like sleek elegant logos - but it's your design. Do you mean you want to BAT it? Or do you want me to BAT it?

@grbac80 - Yep fer sure! We'll cross that bridge when we get there ^_^

@JamieDoho - Aww thanks I'm unsure about the Hydro building yet. It would be a fun one to do, but it might take up a little too much time as I'm too busy at the moment

@tcxalapa - Awesome! Thank You

@Victor Valdes - So I assume your European? ^_^

UPDATE:

So I've been doing my homework, BATting here and there

And I came across a lot of construction photos and decided to BAT all elements of construction; starting from Pieces of wood to large trailers and even tractors. I've been BATting them non-stop and highquality (incase I do a small project or two in HD). And yeah, here's some samplers of photos I've been referring too. Basically everything in these photos I've BATted and saved them to their own respective scenes.

^^^The Houston "Main Place" I've been referring this building too. This is them building the upper floors, but frankly I think my way just looks much more better and busier. People would think I'm slacking off if I make it this plain.

^^^Still adding details to the crane.

^^^And as by request, installing a window. Ironically enough this is the Houston Main Place too. I still have this to build.

^^^The lot is a 6x4. I believe I'll be making more of a big hole in the ground and make it look like nice construction. Maybe add a parkade or something.  The building won't be centered like this in the final product. The building will be offset depending on what I still have to build.

I worked on the roof a lot more, worked on the crane and made the crane more complex. And I did like 30 models of construction stuff that I could easily merge and put them on the base of the tower (but I'm still working on the tower - no need to add unneccesary geometry yet ).

I'll hopefully post another update soon ^_^

I really like this "in process" idea. But you would need to really texture it.. neutral gray mat isn't really realistic. It may look fine inteh clinically sterile preview renderings but once in the proper environment it would look very much out of place.
Glass also had this somewhat plasticy look. It may be sort of ok if it suppose to be dirty, dusty... I also know of one building there glass seem to be like that - CCTV building in Beijing.

You have mistaken my name with my alter ego.

Now for your BATs- I'm not a Max master or user, but I agree with Simfox's suggestions about the textures. The grey material would look better with a texture rather than a solid color or however you explain this in Max terms...
 EDIT:
It seems my post is trapped in the quote box after I quoted kellydale...now my
font is odd...

Hey, Check out my friend's site.  Come see the Sci-Fi City Project by GlobexCo and me.

How about seeing some non-New York BATs by me?

Your stuff is really quite good, the construction scene is nice.
You've got fairly decent skills now with Max now, but I think you might have SimHoTToDDy-Syndrome. That is you start too much! I'd recommend finishing up some stuff before starting anything new, even though it's tempting to start a new project every second day.

btw, I wouldn't worry about the SWFC. Dmscorpio did a pretty nice version of that a little while back.

Yes, I was about to say what Cockatoo did. Please stop with the new projects and finish one at a time! We really want some of the first projects you've been working on and don't want them to be swept under the rug! But I'm glad to see that you're doing a construction BAT and what a neat one to do! I like that you've varied the windows that are being placed on the top floor that's almost finished; that's very realistic!
