Source: http://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?page=...
No, this is not an April fools that arrived a bit late, but the Network Addon Mod is celebrating its 4th birthday today! The NAM Team has been working hard over the last few weeks, and we were able to compile a new version of the largest and most popular mods for SimCity 4.  It includes some exciting new stuff, as well as updates of popular items, lots of visual improvements and countless bugfixes (for a complete list, see below).

As usual, please read the included readme file first, otherwise, things might go wrong. It is highly advised to uninstall your current NAM version, since lots of things have changed. For this, you can either use the uninstall feature, or the included BSC Cleanitol file.

Here's a list of changes:
  • Double-height Elevated Rail and Monorail puzzle pieces have been added.
  • GLR bridge has been added.
  • New GLR-in-Avenue puzzle pieces have been added, including Avenue Roundabout with GLR crossing.
  • New Rail Viaduct puzzle pieces have been added.
  • Diagonal Highway on-slope puzzle pieces have been added, existing on-slope puzzle pieces have been revamped to eliminate shadow bug.
  • All overpasses have been modified to eliminate the color shift of the network that crosses under another (both Maxis and custom overpasses).
  • Elevated Rail to GLR transition has been improved visually.
  • Double-decker puzzle pieces have been improved visually.
  • Elevated Rail and Monorail over Elevated Highway overpasses have been improved visually.
  • Various other overpasses and puzzle pieces have been improved visually.
  • Diagonal Highway shift by one tile is now possible.
  • Oneway-Road arrow removal plugin has been updated.
  • Custom Menu plugins have been added to reorder icons in Rail and Misc Transportation menu.
  • A new set of Traffic Simulator (Traffic Plugin) files have been added, outdated Traffic Plugin files have been removed.
  • A variety of RUL, texture and pathing errors have been fixed.
  • NAM Controller contains RULs for updated RHW (Rural Highway mod), updated SAM (Street Addon Mod) and new HSR (High Speed Rail) plugins (released separately).

Cities Unlimited Now Cities XL!
Source: http://www.cuplanet.com/
From CUPlanet.com:
ONEWe're about to live a very exciting week !ONE

You're the first ones to get the news: the game’s official title is CITIES XL™.

At first it sounded strange to us… But now that we've been using it internally for a few days CITIES XL™ replaced Cities Unlimited in our discussions faster than what we'd have thought.

We sincerely think we’re making the right choice as CITIES XL™ will be huge and, we want to allow people of different languages and cultures to understand and pronounce the title.

As a token appreciation for the time you've spent with us discussing the game, we decided to grant ALL current registered community members with the « Founder » title. It will be displayed next to your profile in the forums and, in essence, bear witness to your presence from the early beginnings.

We’ll make official the new name this week with a press release which should attract numerous new contributors to the forums. We’ll also update the website (you may find the website down for maintenance for a couple of hours). We’ll take this opportunity to update any reference to  Cities Unlimited to CITIES XL™ wherever we may find it (including in your posts), to avoid creating confusing between the two names for newcomers. We're relying on you to convey the message.

Stay tuned as we also have a huge surprise to accompany the website update !!!

See you soon, and long life to CITIES XL™!

Although many players here are anti-SCS the fact that your being given 4 patches for free to improve the game more to your/our standards shows that this company is dedicated to reach this audience. Who knows patch #5 may be on its way aswell!

Video Special: An Evening With Will Wright
Source: http://insider.ign.com/articles/857/857901p1.html

Will Wright opens up about games, Godzilla, and cosmonauts

March 7, 2008 - Will Wright is one of the pillars of modern game design. His work on SimCity, The Sims, and the forthcoming Spore, has rightfully earned him a spot among the most celebrated designers working in the games industry today. At GDC this year, EA hosted a special event at San Francisco's Mezzanine bar where Wright shared his thoughts on videogames and popular culture. In typical fashion, Wright gave a far-reaching and eccentric account of his youth, his particular fixations with popular culture, and a profound examination of what we really get out of playing games.)

SimCity Co-Creator Joins Red Mile
Source: http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_conte...
Braun, who has over 20 years of experience in the industry, co-founded Maxis with Will Wright in 1987. In his new role at Sausalito, California-based GripShift publisher Red Mile, which last year picked up the exclusive worldwide license to make games based on Frank Miller’s Sin City graphic novels, Braun will work alongside COO and president Glenn Wong, who is a former president of Electronic Arts Canada.

“Red Mile got my attention when it licensed Frank Miller’s Sin City. The opportunity to work with a company that has the rights to such an influential Frank Miller property is very compelling,” said Braun.

“The next big challenge for Red Mile will be to turn this property into a triple-A game and make the transition to a top-tier publisher. I believe their development strategy, in addition to the management experience of Glenn Wong, are key steps toward achieving this goal.”
